Out and About – What Llangorse has to Offer

The area around Llangorse village has a host of attractions and activities for you to enjoy if you wish, whilst staying in your shepherd’s hut.

For the adventurous….

Ellesmere Riding Centre

Ellesmere Riding Centre is  our own small family-run riding centre, where we offer pony trekking for novices and families, and faster hacking rides for riders with more experience. Located at the top of the lane  leading down to Llangorse Lake, we ride out through the village and into the hills for half-day and full-day rides.

Lakeside
Llangorse is also the location of Llangorse Lake – Llyn Syfaddan – home of the Crannog Centre  where you can attempt to remove King Arthur’s sword from the stone. From Lakeside you can hire a rowing boat, canoe or kayak to enjoy the views from the centre of the lake. Fishing permits can be obtained from the  Lakeside shop as well.

Llangorse Multi-activity Centre
Located to the east of Llangorse village is Llangorse Multi-activity Centre. The Centre offers all-year-round action-packed activities including an indoor climbing wall, rope bridges and zip-line. Outdoors is the fantastic Sky Trek – flying through the air on a series of connnected ziplines above open farmland below.  For children, the Junior Challenge Course offers  over thirty individual activities, startinga t low level but rising to ever greater heights.

For more sedate experiences….

Bird Watching

Llangorse Lake is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and nature reserve, so is a fantastic place for bird watching and other environmental activites. A superb hide is located on the south side of the Lake at Llangasty which can be reached by a footpath along the western side of the lake, detailed in the Awesome Walks  booklet.

Awesome Walks
Look out for the booklet “Awesome Walks”, available to purchase from many outlets around Llangorse Lake. It provides details and maps of  a series of great circular walks from easy going rambles to climbing to the top of Llangorse Hill with superb views of the Lake and the Brecon Beacons. All the walks  have been selected by local people so we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Dark Skies

Llangorse lies at the heart of one of the UK’s top dark skies destinations. Experience the wonder of seeing the Milky Way above you and look out for the Great Bear and shooting stars. In recent years, eclipse viewing has been arranged by local astronomers, and Llangorse Community Centre has been the venue for planetarium and star-gazing experiences so keep an eye open for future events.
